For Retroactive I set up a round table discussion by editing the original contributions from audio recordings made as part of the Women’s Audio Archive project 1984-1990. In the new fictional version fragments of the following recordings were used:
THE BURDEN OF HISTORY – A NEW AMNESIA? by Tom Lawson 4’03’’ FEMINISM AND CRITICISM – WHAT EFFECTS WHAT? by Thierry de Duve. POWER AS REPRESENTATION AS POWER: MERE ARTISTIC STAREGIES by Benjamin Buchloh7’09’’ and Craig Owens 10’17’’. INTENTIONS: MUST WE MEAN WHAT WE SAY/ DO WE SAY WHAT WE MEAN? by Douglas Crimp 2’56’’. All were recorded during panel presentations taking place at the Ontario College of Art, Toronto 17 March 1984
Set up: The sign with the name of each of the speakers + a sign saying MODERATOR to be placed on the table with a chair matching each ‘speaker’. Microphone to be moved around by someone from the technical support.
